I just finished a giant programming project!
It was something I was dreading for a long time but it actually turned out to be a lot of fun. Very surprisingly!
The brief was to program a simple 3D game using C++ and OpenGL, written in QT Creator.
I decided to make a game about giraffes.
In my game, you play as this giraffe:
The objective of the game is to walk around Africa finding facts about giraffes. These are hidden inside question mark objects (these: )
BUT, some of these question marks have BOMBS hiding inside them! When triggered, these bombs explode after a few seconds, and if you aren’t out of range, you lose a life! 3 lives, and then it’s game over.
It’s really more of a casual walking around and learning about giraffes game, rather than a fast paced, violent or difficult game.
Here’s the title screen:
Here’s some of the other objects I made for the game:
And the main feature of the game, the facts! Some of these were made by me, but mostly they were the result of my friends and family helping me out and doing amazing drawings of giraffes! Most of these facts are true.
And here’s a couple of videos of gameplay!
First ones a successful play through:
And now what happens if you lose all your lives!
I love my course.
